What is Strawberry Oats
Strawberry Oats are a dessert made with oats and strawberries, but why? What makes it so special? Well, first, you can’t go wrong with a good bowl of cereal for breakfast. Second, oats are one of my favorite foods to eat during the weekend when I’m home from work, especially when they’re paired with strawberries! Thirdly: well.. because who doesn’t love strawberries? Fourthly: because I love them so much that I even sometimes eat these oats, strawberry concoctions for dinner (and yes there will be pictures). Lastly, Strawberry Oats tastes great with any toppings you like, from maple syrup to yogurt or even chocolate chips. So get your mixing bowl out and get ready for some deliciousness! That’s five reasons why Strawberry Oats are delicious! So there you have it, a delicious meal in just five words or less!

Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 20 mins
Ingredients
- 1 cup oats
- 1 cup water
- 3 cups strawberries (frozen or fresh) chopped into bite, sized pieces (or any other fruit you prefer)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder, optional
- honey to taste (1 tbsp for each cup of oats)
- vanilla extract to taste (about 2 tbsp)
- milk or lemon juice to thin out the mixture if needed. You can also add salt if desired
Instructions
- Add oats, milk and water to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, until oats are soft about 15 minutes.
Cooking Notes
You’ll want to use a pot with a lid, so that you can cook the oatmeal and keep it warm while you’re making the topping. The larger the pot is, the better—you’ll have more room to stir things up. If your stovetop has a non, stick surface like stainless steel or Teflon, great! Otherwise, be sure to use wooden spoons for stirring when cooking this recipe (or anything else).
You can also add any other ingredients that strike your fancy: nuts or seeds might be nice additions as well; vanilla extract adds another layer of flavor without being overpowering; cinnamon sticks are what give this dish its signature scent; lemon zest brightens up any dish without adding bitterness; blueberries bring out their natural sweetness even more than strawberries do alone
Pro Tip
This recipe is a little more forgiving than some. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries, but we prefer to use the freshest fruit possible. Serve the oatmeal topped with strawberries. Enjoy!
Strawberry Oats is best to serve with
- Cinnamon
- Honey (for a sweeter oatmeal)
- Nutmeg (to add flavor)
- Peaches, bananas and blueberries are great additions to the recipe as well. Raspberries and blackberries can also be added to make this breakfast special!
Add ins and Variations
You can add nuts, seeds and dried fruit to your oatmeal. Or you can substitute the strawberries with other fruits like blueberries or cranberries. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, add a pinch of cinnamon to make this breakfast even more flavorful!
Is it fine to add Protein Powder?
I understand your need for additional protein because, let’s face it, an oatmeal bowl contains a lot of carbohydrates. Yes, you can make this oatmeal more filling by adding protein powder. When making this recipe, I prefer to go with an unflavored type so the strawberry’s natural flavors may come through. However, protein with a vanilla flavor is also delectable and enhances the “strawberries and cream” flavor of the oats.
Can I use other fruit to make this oatmeal?
Totally! Any fruit can be cooked using the same technique. For a fruit and cream oatmeal, peaches, raspberries, mango, nectarines, blackberries, and bananas would all be excellent choices. Adapt your fruit selection to the season! You can also try this peaches and cream oatmeal with a hint of coconut, this slow, cooked apple butter carrot cake oatmeal, or this chocolate cherry steel cut oats if you enjoy cherries. Oatmeal with apple and cinnamon is another favorite of mine once the fall weather turns cooler.
A nice twist on the classic breakfast, Strawberry Oats is a great way to start your day. They are quick and easy to prepare and will satisfy that sweet tooth without the added sugar or calories. This recipe makes one serving so it is perfect if you just want one bowl of oatmeal but don’t want any leftovers!
