Oreo Cheesecake Recipe: Made from Scratch
I love Oreos, and I love cheesecake. The only thing that’s better than an Oreo is an Oreo in the center of a delicious cheesecake! This dessert combines two of my favorite things: creamy cheesecake and the best cookie ever, the Oreo. You can make this recipe with store, bought ingredients or homemade ones; either way, it’s going to be delicious.
What is Oreo Cheesecake
An Oreo cheesecake is a dessert that has the same basic ingredients as a regular cheesecake, but with the addition of Oreos. For example, an Oreo cheesecake is made from cream cheese, sugar and eggs as well as vanilla extract and sometimes sour cream or lemon zest. The main difference between this recipe and many other cheesecake recipes is that instead of using graham cracker crumbs for the crust, you’ll use crushed up cookies from an Oreo package.
As with any other type of cake or pie recipe, there are plenty of variations on how to make an Oreo Cheesecake depending on what kind of toppings you want to put on it or what kind of flavor profile you want it to have (for example: chocolatey vs creamy). You can also substitute some things like whole milk for heavy cream if you prefer more moisture in your desserts!
Ingredients
Oreo Cookies
- 1 package of Oreos (16 total)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Base
The base of the cheesecake is made from a simple mixture of cream cheese, sugar and eggs. You’ll need to cook it for about 10 minutes to get everything mixed together smoothly. If you’re using a non, stick pan, you’ll want to set the heat on medium and let the base cook for about 20, 25 minutes until it’s done.
If you’re using a regular pan (or any other type of pan), make sure that you don’t over, cook or burn your base! You’ve got about 10, 15 minutes on normal heat before this happens.
Filling
You’ll need:
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract/extracts of choice (optional , can be replaced with peppermint oil)
- 4 cups Oreos, ground into fine crumbs in a food processor or blender. Use the “pulse” button to chop them up until they are about the size of breadcrumbs. You do not want to pulverize them into dust! This will make a nice thick filling that holds together well and has that familiar Oreo flavor throughout your dessert. If you don’t have any on hand you can substitute crushed chocolate sandwich cookies instead , the end result will still be delicious but perhaps a little less decadent 😉
- To give it an extra kick try adding some peppermint extract along with whatever other flavoring agents you’re using (e.g., vanilla). Also note that not all brands are created equal when it comes to Oreo crumbs so feel free to experiment until you find one that suits your taste buds best!
Cooking Tips
Here are some things to keep in mind as you cook:
- The cooking time varies depending on the oven you use and the size of your pan.
- Cooking time depends on how thick the cheesecake is. The thicker it is, the longer it will need to bake.
- You may have to adjust your cooking time based on what temperature you set your oven at as well (e.g., if you turn it up high, then turn it back down).
Decoration
Once you’ve eaten all the cheesecake, it’s time to decorate. You can use:
- Oreo cookie crumbs
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate syrup (or melted chocolate)
- Chocolate chips, jimmies, sprinkles or curls
This dessert is perfect if you love Oreos and cheesecake!
Whether you’re looking for a new dessert to serve at your next party or just want to treat yourself, this Oreo Cheesecake is sure to be a winner. The cheesecake is smooth and creamy, with a hint of vanilla flavor. It’s also richly flavored by crushed Oreos that get folded into the batter along with some lemon zest. If you enjoy cream cheese frosting on your cheesecakes (and who doesn’t?), then this recipe has been made just for you!
The recipe calls for an Oreo crust, but if you love chocolate and cookies as much as we do, then feel free to substitute any other cookie combination that strikes your fancy. We’ve included instructions for making both types of crusts here: either way will pair well with our delicious homemade Oreo filling which includes real vanilla extract!
This recipe is so easy to make and it’s a fun dessert for the whole family. My favorite part about this dessert is the Oreo crust! I love the crunchy texture of it mixed with the creamy filling. It’s also really easy to dress up if you want some extra flare on top of your cake too!
