Fried Twinkie’s
Fried Twinkie’s is a recipe that you need to know. It’s an amazing dessert that will impress anyone who tries it. This recipe is very easy to make, and it can be served at parties, or any other gathering with friends and family.
4 Twinkies
The recipe calls for four Twinkies, but you may need more. You want to make sure that you have enough Twinkies so that you can hit the right ratio of filling to cake and avoid having extra filling left over (unless you’re into that). If your recipe calls for 4 cakes and you only have 3 in the box, then go ahead and use them all. But if there are 5 or 6 Twinkies in your box, hold onto one or two just in case!
2 cups flour
You can use flour in a number of ways to create a delicious fried Twinkie. Here are some ideas:
- Make dough with it
- Make batter with it
- Make a coating for your Twinkie, fried treat by dredging it through the flour before frying
- Use flour as an ingredient in your roux (a thickening agent) if you’re making the batter yourself
1 tbs. baking powder
Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda, cornstarch and an acid to react with the alkaline baking soda when mixed with liquid. The resulting gas bubbles help baked goods rise and become light and fluffy. It can also be used in quick breads, muffins, pancakes or waffles. If you want to make your own homemade version of this ingredient (like I do!), then it’s made from one part cream of tartar or lemon juice added to two parts flour for each teaspoon required in your recipe, , and then one part whole bicarbonate of soda for every 1/4 cup needed in your recipe!
1 cup milk (can use more if needed)
You can use more than 1 cup of milk if you need to. You can also use 2% or whole milk, soy milk, almond milk or low, fat or even half and half.
1 egg
- Beat the egg well, then add it to the mixture.
- Heat up a skillet over medium heat and add enough cooking oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
- Dip each twinkie into the cornstarch mixture and place on a plate or baking sheet until ready to fry (they will get soggy if left in there too long).
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Vanilla extract is a flavoring made from vanilla beans. It’s used in baking, cooking and drinks. It’s also a key ingredient in many desserts like ice cream, cakes, cookies and pies.
Cooking Notes
Cooking Twinkie’s is easy, but it does require some heat. Use a deep fryer and fill it with oil at the appropriate temperature. A candy thermometer can help with this step, as well as when frying your Twinkies themselves. When you’re ready to cook your Twinkies, add them to the hot oil one at a time and flip them after about 2 minutes on each side.
Fried Twinkie’s is best to serve with
Fried Twinkies are best served with fruit. Strawberries, bananas and blueberries work well. Ice cream makes a nice accompaniment as well. If you like chocolate sauce, you can drizzle some on top of your fried Twinkie for added sweetness. A dollop of whipped cream or a squiggle of hot fudge will also make this dessert extra special!
This recipe is sure to impress everyone. It’s fairly simple to create and simply calls for basic ingredients.
