Most Delicious Feta Meatballs Recipe
I love meatballs! They’re so versatile and can be used in a variety of recipes. This recipe is so simple, with most ingredients already in your pantry. Feta cheese gives these meatballs a Greek twist.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb ground beef (or chicken, pork or turkey)
1 c breadcrumbs
1/4 shredded parmesan cheese (add more for more flavor)
1 egg (large)
2 tsp minced garlic (or more if you love garlic)
1 lb ground beef (or chicken, pork, or turkey)
This is the base of your meatball. It’s also a great source of protein and iron—both essential nutrients for maintaining energy levels and overall health. Ground beef is also a good source of zinc, selenium and B vitamins that can help boost immunity.
1 c breadcrumbs
Breadcrumbs are made from cooked and dried pieces of bread. They come in many different varieties, but they’re all pretty similar: they’re dry, crunchy and crumbly. The most common use for breadcrumbs is as an ingredient in meatballs. They can also be used as a coating for other foods before frying or baking them.
1/4 shredded parmesan cheese (add more for more flavor)
Parmesan cheese is a good source of calcium and protein. It’s also a great way to add flavor to your meatballs, so feel free to add more if you want!
1 egg (large)
Use the egg to bind together the meatball ingredients. Letting it rest in a bowl will help you form your meatballs in shape easier, as well as helping them brown better during cooking.
2 tsp minced garlic (or more if you love garlic)
You probably already know that garlic is a natural antibiotic and anti-inflammatory, but did you know it also has cancer-fighting properties? It’s true! So feel free to add extra garlic to your meatballs if you want to do everything in your power to prevent cancer.
2 tsp dried oregano
Combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, 1-1/2 tsp salt and 2 tsp dried oregano in a large bowl (see note below). Using your hands, combine all ingredients thoroughly until a sticky mass forms. Form about 24 meatballs about 1 inch in diameter and place on a foil-lined baking sheet (see note below). Bake at 400°F until cooked through, 20 to 25 minutes depending on size of meatball (see notes below).
Salt & pepper to taste
Once the water has boiled, pour it over the lentils. Cover and let sit for 20-25 minutes, or until soft. Drain well and set aside. While the lentils are cooking, make your meatballs! In a large bowl combine all of your ingredients (except for half of the breadcrumbs), then roll into small balls about 1″ in diameter (or however big you prefer). Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil sprayed with cooking spray; bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through. While those are baking mix together all of your sauce ingredients including remaining breadcrumbs; add cheese if desired and stir to combine everything well. Once baked transfer onto a plate and pour sauce over top then serve as desired!
Olive oil spray or olive oil (for cooking meatballs)
You can use olive oil spray to quickly cook your meatballs and prevent them from sticking to the pan. The spray will also help them brown nicely. Olive oil is a delicious alternative, but be sure to let it heat up before adding in your raw meatballs. If you add them too soon they’ll stick and burn!
