Cajun King Prawn Linguine Diacrese: A Delightfully Cheesy Italian Dish.
The king prawn linguine is a classic dish and one of my favorites. It’s easy to make, delicious and nutritious. I like the sweet flavor of the king prawns paired with the rich cream sauce and fresh herbs.
I like to serve this dish with a simple green salad for lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 3 onion, finely chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb king prawns (about 4), peeled and deveined with tails left on if possible
All these ingredients are very simple to make and you will find them in your local supermarket or fishmonger’s shop.
Cooking time: 20-30 minutes
Cooking time depends on the type of pasta used, your cooking method, and how many prawns you’re cooking. If we had to make an estimate, we’d say 20-30 minutes is sufficient for this recipe.
- For best results, use linguine or spaghetti. The key here is that these pastas are long enough to hold all the ingredients in one bite without having to cut them up or cook them separately (like with fettuccine).
- Cajun King Prawn Linguine can be cooked using both dry heat methods (such as boiling) or wet heat methods (such as sauteing). It might also be possible to bake it if you have a large enough cast iron pan!
275g (10oz) king prawns
- Measure the King Prawns.
- For this recipe, we will be using king prawns that measure 7-9cm (3-4″) long and 5g to 8g each. This yields 275g of King Prawn meat in total.
- To ensure accuracy when preparing your ingredients, use a scale to weigh out each ingredient from here onwards.
- Clean the King Prawns.
1 tsp Cajun seasoning
To make a batch of Cajun seasoning, start by mixing together:
- 2 tsp paprika (grounded)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Mix those ingredients together and then add the following to that mixture:
1/4 tsp black pepper (grounded)
What you have now is your own homemade Cajun seasoning! You can store it in an airtight container for up to six months in your pantry.
25g (1oz) unsalted butter
Melt the butter in a frying pan, then tip in the garlic. Cook for 2 minutes until softly browned. Add the lemon juice, wine and half of the parsley, then cook for 3-4 minutes more until reduced by half.
Add the prawns to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until pink and cooked through. Stir through remaining parsley, check seasoning and serve with linguine or spaghetti pasta tossed in olive oil and salt (optional).
3 tbsp olive oil
Here, you’ll use 3 (three) tablespoons of olive oil. Olive oil is a healthy fat that’s rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants.
1 large onion, chopped
Use a sharp knife to chop the onion and release its flavor. Stir with a wooden spoon until light golden brown, about 5 minutes.
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
Garlic is an important ingredient in this dish, but it’s also a member of the onion family. Garlic contains allicin and other sulfur compounds that have been shown to have powerful antioxidant properties. It has been used for thousands of years as an antibiotic and is a great source of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and manganese among other nutrients.
300g dried linguine or spaghetti
Cook the pasta in boiling, salted water until al dente (about 3 minutes). Drain and set aside.
Heat a large frying pan and add the oil. Add the prawns, garlic and onion and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until golden brown and just cooked through. Remove from pan with a slotted spoon and set aside.
2 tsp chopped fresh thyme
Thyme is an herb used in many cuisines, including Cajun. It’s also commonly used as a garnish and has been used since ancient times to help with digestion.
75ml (2½fl oz) double cream or whipping cream.
Adjust as needed to reach desired consistency in the sauce. It should be creamy but not too thick. You may need to add a little more cream or water to get the right consistency. It should be creamy but not too thick.
