After doing some google homework. I was able to find some interesting information about the Jamaican beef patty. Our beautiful Jamaicans brought the Jamaican beef patties recipe in the 1960s and 1970s after many immigrated to the United States as hospital staff, home health aides, and nurses. The Jamaican beef patties were found in all of the restaurants in New York City with high populations of Caribbeans. The patties are equally popular in British cities as well in large West Indian populations, such as Birmingham, Manchester, and London. Their popularity is spreading in the United Kingdom and they are becoming available in many mainstream outlets. After doing research this was all I could find it’s not a hundred percent. They are also popular in Toronto, Montreal, Washington, D.C., and numerous other areas throughout the American northeast and Canadian Great Lakes regions; in many of those areas, they are available in grocery stores, delis, corner stores, and convenience stores. In recent years, the Jamaican beef patty has been pre-made and frozen for mass selling in Britain, Canada, and the United States. In many areas in Canada and in the United States, Jamaican beef patties are now typically available at pizza and convenience food restaurants, as well as supermarkets all across the world. So go ahead try to recreate this beautiful recipe that was given to us by our beautiful Jamaican brother and sisters.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, add the flour, curry and salt, and sugar and mix. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut in the cold vegan butter and shortening.
Meatless Beef Filling
In a large skillet over medium heat add 1 tablespoon of o Olive oil. Saute until softened about 2-3 minutes.
Add ground meatless beef, peppers, browning sauce, and all the seasonings. Using a wooden spoon chop up the Meatless beef. Alternatively, you can cook the Meatless beef first then drain remember it’s up to you.
Make sure the meatless beef isn’t chunky, so use a food processor until chunks disappear add a little bit of water. Remember you don’t want big chunks of meatless beef floating around in your Patty lol. Mix well, The mixture should be a bit moist.
Let the meatless beef cool for about 15-20 minutes.
Now add equal meatless beef filling to the half side of each square of dough, leaving some room free around the edges. Brush vegan egg wash around the edges of the dough. (This will allow the dough to seal. Fold and seal using a fork to crimp the edges.
You can use a butter knife and gently press the ends of the crimped dough to make it look neat. Poke a couple holes into the top of the patty. Add them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or a baking tray with holes. Trust me there’s enough butter in the patties so it won’t burn.
Brush each patty with the vegan egg wash Bake for 25-30 minutes 350° or until the crust is golden brown.
For Vegan egg replacement just use milk with olive oil or whatever you like😁🤗.
